Racing Toward a Cure — Join My Mission to End Blood Cancer
Like most people, I’ve experienced loss of family and friends to cancer, and witnessed the suffering of brave souls who live and fight with cancer everyday. I am proud to be riding America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride - AMBBR again this year with Team In Training as a fundraiser for Blood Cancer United to find cures and end cancer.
My personal motivation came from losing my cousin Jennifer Hershiser to Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2020, just one year after diagnosis. She was a dear friend and running buddy who ran a half marathon event every Month before she became ill. AML continues to be the most aggressive form of blood cancer and a somber reminder of why we need to continue our effort to beat it.
- 25% of the research Blood Cancer United funds is aimed at finding cures and improving quality of life for AML patients - that’s $60 million!
- Treatments developed through Blood Cancer United are used in nearly all other forms of cancer. Car-T Cell Therapy (immunotherapy) alone is becoming the standard alternative to chemo for nearly all types of cancer and was developed by their funding project.
- 81 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to research, patient support and advocacy.
Baird Gives Back
Many Baird associates team up during Baird Gives Back Week, an event held annually in the spring, to serve local community organizations that are in need of help. In 2024, associates donated nearly 6,500 volunteer hours to help support non-profit organizations and individuals across the firm’s global footprint.
